《至尊無上》是王晶另一賭片作品，也是九十年代賭片始祖之一，此片沒有《賭神》般神化，沒有《賭俠》般娛樂，是眾多賭片中較真實的一部。
論叫座力及票房，《至尊無上》確實不能與由雙周“周潤發及周星馳”領銜主演的賭片相比，觀眾對本片的印象也許不深，但在鬼才王晶的調控下，《至尊無上》仍是一部佳作。
選角方面，由譚詠麟配搭劉德華已是票房保證（當年較有條件飾演此類角色的演員寥寥無幾），由後者飾演號稱亞洲第一神手——螃蟹，更是不二之選。而事實上，劉德華的演繹令阿蟹這個重情義、落泊潦倒的賭徒形象活現出來，其表演亦較自然，沒有“刀仔”的浮誇、沒有“華弟”的造作，在云云眾多角色中，螃蟹可算是他早期作品中較紮實的了。
另一方面，《至尊無上》亦延續了王晶對賭片的鍾愛，在無線擔任編劇時，《千王之王》就是他的作品，心水清的更察覺《至尊無上》最後的一幕，正是《千王之王》的電影版（電視版為汪明荃及謝賢）。更叫影迷回味的是，闊別公仔箱多年的陳玉蓮再度與劉德華合作（劇集《神鵰俠侶》分飾楊過與小龍女），只是本片陳飾演其嫂子而已，但螃蟹捨己救嫂一幕，確實非常出色，堪稱死士經典場面之一，也為螃蟹定下不可磨滅的形象。
欣賞《至尊無上》是因為它講述職業賭徒的真實性，內容沒有其他賭片般空泛，比如講述譚、劉二人看穿日本老千的技倆那一幕，沒有特異功能，沒有變牌，就是實實在在，電影結局譚詠麟為了戰勝對手，連愛人陳玉蓮也一起騙進去…..更是切合回應了本片的主題：當賭徒的，要騙人，就一定不能被贓到；就算被贓到，也不能被你的愛人贓到。
